Surrendering Your Dog or Cat
At Edgewater Animal Shelter, we understand that surrendering your pet is never easy. Life circumstances such as financial hardship, health issues, or changes in living situations can make it difficult to continue caring for a beloved dog or cat. Our goal is to provide a respectful, supportive, and judgment-free environment for pet owners facing this tough choice.
We accept owners’ surrenders from The City of Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, South Daytona, Ormond Beach, Ponce Inlet, and Volusia County, subject to circumstances. Please bring all veterinary records, the pet’s bed, food, and toys. There is a $100 surrender fee if your pet is up to date on vaccines and is spayed or neutered; you must have veterinary records. The fee is $150 if your pet is not spayed or neutered and vaccinated. If you have special circumstances, please contact us at 386-402-7476.
Because we are almost always operating at full capacity, we are unable to accept walk-in surrenders. If you are considering surrendering your pet, please complete our Surrender Request Form to begin the process. Once we receive your form, your pet will be placed on our waitlist, and a member of our team will contact you as soon as space becomes available. Please know that we are not set up to accommodate every animal. Aggressive animals will not be accepted.
YOU MUST MAKE PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS TO SURRENDER A PET.
If you find a stray animal, please contact Animal Control at 386-424-2000.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to accommodate each animal in need while maintaining the highest standards of care for those already in our shelter.
